Divorce
Response
It is imperative
that you file a response if you have been served divorce papers.
If you do not file a response you will be giving up your rights.
Don't let this happen to you.
If your
spouse has hired an attorney this attorney cannot represent you.
What this means is that you will have to either hire your own attorney
or have the response papers prepared for you. If your spouse has
chosen to do their own divorce, chances are good that you can come
to an agreement to get the divorce final. This is an easy process
but you will still need to respond if you have been served.
It is important
to understand that if you have been served divorce papers, the things
listed in the petition/complaint will be awarded if you do not respond.
After the time has passed (20 to 30 days depending on the state)
your spouse can ask the court to award a divorce based on default.
